My career transition from product consultation to user experience design .
In 2015, I was knee-deep in Oracle applications consulting when user feedback nudged me towards something new: mastering digital product usability and its impact on user experience.
Instead of shelling out big bucks for formal education, I dove into MOOCs for self-learning. And I didn’t stop there—I combined my hunger for knowledge with a love for travel, backpacking across the globe and crashing with design students and faculty through Couchsurfing. It wasn’t just about seeing the sights; it was about learning hands-on by taking on small projects and getting real critiques from learners and experts in the field.
Over the next year, I soaked up UX concepts and put them into action freelancing in places like the USA, Korea, Vietnam, and India. Each stop brought new insights, like the very first interaction of meeting a graphic designer in South Korea who opened my eyes to the many facets of design and career paths.
By the end of that whirlwind year, armed with a deep dive into Oracle SCM and CRM products and a fresh UX perspective, I put together a portfolio that caught Oracle’s attention. They saw the potential in my blend of technical knowledge and user-centered design thinking, and I landed my first gig as a UX designer for their products ‘Primavera Unifier Project Controls’ and ‘Primavera P6 Enterprise Project Portfolio Management’.
Since this experience I have kept the momentum going as a lifelong learner, always keeping my mind open to new approaches to problem-solving. My goal is simple: provide a balanced and pragmatic approach to ensure teams strive for product adoption and success, with user at the center of the product design process.
