Apart from the above, you can get your money exchanged at all the leading banks and even in hotels and guesthouses. However in such establishments the scope for negotiation is Nil, and the rates you get will not be in your favour.

Few tips while getting Forex:

1. Ensure the establishment is legitimate
2. Always ask for a bill against your transaction, which includes details on the denominations and amounts that you have received
3. If possible make a note of the serial numbers of the currency received on the bill
4. Visit the Forex office, if you can, to get the money transferred personally. Some agents will volunteer to come to your place of work, or meet you elsewhere to give you the cash. Proceed with caution in such cases and be aware of the risks.
5. Carry a copy of your passport, PAN card  etc .(It is a good idea to call beforehand and ask what documentation is needed)
6. In case you are planning a short trip overseas, you may not even need Forex as most ATM’s worldwide will accept your Indian Debit/Credit card . The ATM machines usually display either a Mastercard or Visa logo, this indicates if your card will work on the machine.
7. Similarly, a travelers Forex card is a good idea only if you wish to load and spend upwards of  4000 USD. Otherwise the logistics and the fees are not worth the payoff.
