When she turned a teen – Poem

The best of friends
They spend their lives together
From the age of two
Through to now

A favourite candy shop
And swimming classes
Their evenings were bliss
The two practically lived together

13th birthday had dawned
And they could swim in the oceans now
The mothers bought for them floral bikinis
And off they dived

Far into the ocean
Before they began their laps
To a staring point
Of boulders and weed

With wet chalk
The date was etched and signatures kissed
Thus began a swim
Till one disappeared

Washing her hair
She recalled
The horror of losing a friend
The police kept a record

The story died in the breezy town
Till a detective found
The signatures on the boulder
Was kissed only once
On a date that had begun to fade

The evil glint gave it away
There was no saving the little girl
For she had yet to perfect telling a lie

There was only one who swam that day
While the other
Send bubbles rolling up
As the weeds made her their own
